How do I loop a sequence automatically?

Last updated 27 March 2026

There are two ways to loop a sequence in Backstage, depending on how much control you need.

Option 1 — Loop a single sequence (simple)

  1. Open the Sequencer window and select your Sequence.

  2. In the Inspector, enable the Loop option.

The sequence will restart automatically when it reaches the end. This is the quickest option for a single looping clip with no external control needed.

Option 2 — Use the Stepper node (recommended for shows)

The Sequence:Stepper node gives you full playlist control — multiple clips, transitions, external triggers, and looping.

See Your First Graph for a step-by-step walkthrough of building an auto-starting looping playlist with the Stepper.

Use this option when:

  • You have more than one clip to loop through

  • You need the loop to start automatically at project load

  • You need external control (UDP, OSC, Conductor) to advance or stop the loop
