Create L-Shaped LED wall

For an LED wall of any form it would also be sufficent to take one Display for the full content, as there is no need for any prewarping. This workflow just makes the Visual representation in the scene view match the Installation and gives good insight in many important features of Backstage.

For this example our LED wall will loog as follows:

  • First wall: 4250mm x 2362mm with a resolution of 3346 x 1890 Pixels.

  • Second Wall: 2455mm x 2362mm with a resolution of 1934 x 1890 Pixels.

  • Total Content resolution of 5280 x 1890Pixels.

These areas will contain information and screenshots specific to this example and will differ for your Installation.

To get a scene view that represents a L-shaped LED screen, we need to split up the content and then merge it back together in the Graphics card

  • Create 2 Displays in the Scene Objects window by clicking the + Button.

  • Adjust their Size and Positions to represent the LED-Walls.

  • Adjust the Mapping size and Position of each Wall

  1. Open Mapping option

  2. Click the E button to edit Planar Mapping 1(default)

  3. Check Pixel values Checkbox

  4. Uncheck Force aspect ratio Checkbox

  5. Enter Horizontal and vertical Offset under Position

  6. Enter Full Content resolution under Size.

  7. Enter this Walls Resolution under Resolution

  8. Click the Apply button

If you do not click apply when editing Mappings, your changes will be lost with the next scene reload, even if you save your Project.

  • Assign Videochannels that Play out to the L shaped LED wall to both Displays in the Sequencer Window

  • If you have one GPU output with the full LED-wall resolution you need to Split it up

  1. Navigate to the Outputs Window

  2. Select your GPU Output

  3. Open Split Category and click Creat Custom Split (If your Walls have the same size you can also use the Standard Split Layouts)

  4. Enter Your Offset and Width/Height Parameter for each Wall segment you have

Split for Wall 1: Pixel offset=0/0; Width/Height=3346/1890

Split for Wall 2: Pixel offset=3346/0; Width/Height=1934/1890

  • Route your Displays to your output splits in the Video Routing Window to stitch the Image back together in the Output.
