Audio Routing Window

The audio routing window connects audio streams to mixers and audio outputs. Like the other routing windows it is a matrix: streams down the left, destinations across the top, and a click at an intersection makes or breaks the connection.

Straight through, without a mixer

An audio output created with, say, six channels can take an audio channel directly — the audio plays straight through and no mixer appears in the routing window. The levels are still shown, so the signal can be checked:

A matrix or ambisonic mixer appears in the routing window as a destination, and streams are routed to it by clicking the intersections:

Clicking the arrow next to a mixer's name expands it. In that view any input stream can be routed to any output device — or to another mixer:

Chaining mixers

Because a mixer can feed another mixer, levels can be organised in stages. A common arrangement is one mixer per audio file played in the sequencer, all feeding a single Room Volume mixer, which feeds the outputs.

That gives two independent controls: the per-stream mixers balance the channels within each piece of audio, and the room mixer sets the overall level for the venue — without touching the balance underneath it.

Common Mistakes

  • No mixer appears in the window — that is expected when a channel is routed straight to an output. A mixer only shows up once one exists.

  • Changing the room level ruins the balance — the per-stream mixers and the room mixer are separate stages for exactly this reason. Adjust the stage that matches what you want to change.

  • Audio plays but on the wrong channels — a matrix mixer routes any input to any output, so a mis-set intersection is silent about it. Check the matrix rather than the device.
